BCFPD leaders honored seven recently promoted officers and four firefighter/paramedics who completed their probationary service during the Board of Trustees’ January 20th meeting.

“Each January, our Department recognizes members who earned promotions and/or officially joined our ranks in the prior calendar year,” explained BCFPD Fire Chief James Kreher.  “These ceremonies offer an opportunity for family members to celebrate their loved ones’ professional accomplishments and allow us to thank them for their dedicated service.”

Officers

Officers honored for recent promotions are:

Nick Asta: Deputy Chief, Support Services

Deputy Chief Asta oversees the BCFPD’s Fleet, Information Technology, Dispatching, and Buildings & Grounds Divisions; and helps steer the Department’s long-term planning efforts. 

A member of the Fire Service for 21 years, he has spent the past 16 years serving BCFPD residents as Assistant Chief, Captain, and Firefighter/Paramedic. 

Deputy Chief Asta holds multiple professional certifications, including Licensed Paramedic (Illinois Department of Health); and Chief Fire Officer, Hazardous Materials Incident Command, and Rescue Specialist/Trench (Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal).

Scott Motisi: Deputy Chief;

Director of Training, Safety, and Emergency Medical Services

Deputy Chief Motisi develops, oversees, and coordinates Department efforts pertaining to firefighter/paramedic training and safety; as well as the delivery of emergency medical services to patients. 

He has served BCFPD residents for 16 of his 18 years in the Fire Service as Assistant Chief, Battalion Chief, Lieutenant, and Firefighter/Paramedic.  Deputy Chief Motisi earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Science from Columbia Southern University, Orange Beach, AL. 

He holds nearly 20 professional certifications, including Licensed Paramedic (Illinois Department of Public Health); and Chief Fire Officer, Hazardous Materials Technician A&B, and Fire Department Safety Officer (Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshall).

Erik Mandel: Captain

A six-year Department veteran, Captain Mandel is a member of the BCFPD’s Technical Rescue Team (TRT); and serves on the Building & Grounds, EMS, Fleet Services, and Station Inspections Committees.

Captain Mandel is a certified Vehicle and Machinery Technician and holds Fire Officer II and Advanced Fire Officer certification through the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal.

Vince Murphy: Captain

Captain Murphy is a 19-year Fire Service veteran with 16 years of BCFPD experience.  He is a member of the Investigations Team, and is in charge of the Department’s small tools, small engines, and air monitors.

Fred Berg: Lieutenant

Lt. Berg has accumulated eight years of combined Fire Service/EMT experience – including the past four with the BCFPD.  He serves as an engine & ambulance company supervisor; oversees the Department’s fire extinguisher service/maintenance program; and helps administer its Probationary Member Program.

Caleb Meyers: Lieutenant

Lt. Meyers joined the BCFPD in 2017 and possesses eight years of Fire Service experience.

Sean Wagner: Lieutenant

Lt. Wagner has been with the BCFPD for four years.  He serves as a Department Fire Inspector and CPR Instructor.

Firefighter/Paramedics

Firefighter/Paramedics recognized for completing their probationary service in 2019 were Matt Arce, Matt Campbell, Tom Kelly, and Joe Tucker.
