The Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District (BCFPD) was recognized for its progressive fire sprinkler codes Wednesday, February 4, during the 2009 Fire Team USA Residential Fire Sprinkler Summit.
Trustee Marvin Hill and Deputy Fire Chief John Feit accepted the award on the Fire District’s behalf.
The award presentation was part of a two-day informational conference, held in Addison, IL, on community fire protection, and sprinkler systems codes and ordinances. The Illinois Fire Chiefs Association, Illinois Fire Inspectors Association and Northern Illinois Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board sponsored the summit.
The BCFPD’s ordinance requiring installation of automatic sprinkler systems in all new residential construction was passed in 1997. It covers parts of unincorporated Cook, Lake and McHenry Counties served by the District.
Two of the four municipalities that rely on the District for fire protection services – Lake Barrington and Inverness – also have passed similar sprinkler ordinances. BCFPD officials have made repeated attempts to convince leaders of Barrington Hills and South Barrington to adopt sprinkler system ordinances, but those efforts have not met with success.
Information on BCFPD operations and activities may be found at www.bcfpd.org, or by calling 847/304-3600.
