Property Inspection Program, Knox-Box Systems Ensure Rapid Emergency Response to Residents
Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District trustees encourage home and business owners to take advantage of complimentary property inspections offered by the Barrington Fire Department to ensure that public safety vehicles have clear access when responding to emergencies.
Property owners may also want to consider installing a Knox-Box, currently in use by more than 130 District property owners, which helps paramedics and firefighters gain access to homes or buildings.
A property's landscaping features – such as access roads and driveway entrances surrounded by dense natural growth – may impede the ability of large fire engines and ambulances to reach District residents in emergency situations, according to Deputy Chief John Feit.
"The Fire Department's free, on-site evaluation program helps ensure our vehicles will have enough clearance to respond in cases of emergency," he says. "Inspectors will alert owners if property entrances are too narrow and offer suggestions to improve accessibility."
A Knox-Box is a secure emergency access tool that gives first responders immediate entry to a building or property. It helps emergency crews administer life-saving assistance with minimal delay.
Studies indicate that the chances of survival for people requiring emergency medical care decreases significantly if treatment is not administered within six minutes.
Property owners may schedule a free property inspection, or learn more about the Knox-Box rapid entry system, by calling the BCFPD at 847-304-3600. << Back to Community News |
