Barrington Fire Chief Scoops Ice Cream To Support Fallen Firefighters
Barrington Fire Chief James Arie got behind the counter of a local ice cream parlor and personally served scoops of ice cream to local residents April 28, as part of a national fundraising effort to benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF).
The Fire Department and Baskin-Robbins in Barrington partnered for "31 Cent Scoop Night," a national program where scoops of ice cream – all 31 flavors – sold for 31 cents. Proceeds benefit the Baskin-Robbins Community Foundation, which announced plans to honor America’s firefighters with a $100,000 donation to the NFFF.
"Working with Baskin-Robbins to serve ice cream was a very simple way for us to support the NFFF in their important efforts to honor firefighters across the country," Chief Arie explained.
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, a nonprofit organization established in 1992, honors and remembers America’s fallen fire heroes while providing resources to assist their survivors in rebuilding their lives. Foundation activities include providing firefighters with training to prevent deaths in the line of duty, and offering the public information on ways to prevent fires in their communities.
